From the M6 exit 36
  • follow the A590 towards Barrow-in Furness.
  • At Greenodd turn right onto the A5092 signposted Millom and Whitehaven.
  • The A5092/A595 continues towards Broughton-in-Furness.
  • Follow this road passing the turnings for Broughton-in-Furness.
  • Just before the traffic lights at Duddon Bridge turn right.
  • This road will take you all the way up the Duddon Valley through Ulpha to Seathwaite.


    • From Ambleside
  • Take the A593 towards Coniston.
  • The road takes you over the Skelwith Bridge and past the Hotel on the
    right, before bending sharply to the right and up a steep hill.
  • As the road climbs down again there is a turning to Little Langdale
    and Wrynose Pass.
  • At Little Langdale take the left fork towards Wrynose Pass.
  • Wrynose Pass lies on a narrow, minor road that twists and
    turns onward to Cockley Beck.
  • Here, after plunging to Wrynose Bottom, the road forks.
  • Take the left fork on to Cockley Beck and the Duddon Valley.
  • Troutal Farm is then about 2 miles from Cockley Beck
    on the right hand side.


    • WARNING :
    Wrynose Pass has steep gradients up to 1 in 3.
    An alternative route is to follow the A593 via Coniston
    and Broughton in Furness, and following the above
    directions from the South.
